At a glance

Open Gotta Pee!, choose the facilities you need and select a suitable nearby toilet. Tap Navigate for map and compass guidance. After your visit, leave a review or add a missing place.

1. Open the app and find nearby toilets

Allow Gotta Pee! to use your phone's location. The Nearest to you section lists places by distance. You can browse the map and place information without an account. If the position is missing or inaccurate, check the app's location permission and your phone's location settings.

Each place card can show distance, a cleanliness rating and facilities recorded for that location. Tap Map to see the map, or open a place to read its description, comments and available photos. Check the entrance as well as the pin: a toilet on the other side of a railway line may take longer to reach than its distance suggests.

2. Choose the facilities you need

Choose the filters that match your needs:

  • Free: free to use.
  • Water: water available, useful when checking handwashing facilities. This is not a drinking-water certification.
  • Baby changing: a baby changing table.
  • Wheelchair accessible: a location marked as accessible for disabled people.
  • Parking: parking recorded at the location.
  • Shower: a shower recorded at the location.

When you select several filters, results must match all of them. If the closest result is far away, try removing a non-essential filter. An unmarked facility may simply be missing from the record. Keep any feature essential to your access requirements and confirm details with the venue where necessary.

Check opening hours and any possible-closure warning. Unknown hours do not mean 24-hour access. The app's indication that a place exists is separate from its cleanliness rating.

3. Tap Navigate to find your way

In the place details, Navigate opens guidance inside Gotta Pee! You can use a map view or an arrow showing the direction of your destination. The distance and estimated time help you orient yourself, but the arrow does not check every crossing, locked gate or other obstacle. Follow safe, permitted paths and look for the actual entrance.

For a walking route along streets, select Open in Maps. You can pass the destination to Google Maps, or to Apple Maps on supported devices. The in-app direction arrow should not be mistaken for turn-by-turn street navigation.

4. Leave a review after your visit

Sign in, open the place and choose Rate this place after your visit, the review option after a visit. The guidance map also offers Rate this toilet. Answer Does this place exist? and rate its cleanliness.

Choose Add details to contribute information about facilities, whether it is free, its name or opening hours. Only mark Yes or No for facts you checked. Then tap Save review.

If the toilet genuinely no longer exists, the form offers Report missing place to report it missing. A toilet that is closed at night still exists: update its hours or leave a clear comment instead.

5. Add a toilet that is missing from the map

First check nearby pins to avoid adding the same toilet twice. Sign in and tap Add at the bottom of the screen. In the Add a place form:

  1. Enter a place name, choose its type and describe how to find the entrance.
  2. Record cleanliness and the facilities you have confirmed. Add whether it is free if you know.
  3. Enter opening hours, or choose I don’t know the opening hours.
  4. Move the map so the pin marks the toilet's actual position.
  5. Add a photo if you can do so without photographing other users or private information.
  6. Confirm that the place is safe and legally accessible, then tap Save.

Do not add private property as a public facility or assume that permission to enter is automatic. If the app says a submission is waiting to be sent, check its status when you have a connection again.

Make your contribution useful to the next person

A short, specific note is often enough: Entrance beside the car park, Ask staff for the key or Changing table in a separate family room. Describe what you observed and, where helpful, when you visited. Do not guess about facilities you did not inspect.
